What Is A Church Wedding?

Let all things be done decently and in order - 1 Cor. 14:40

The purpose of a Christian wedding is to record your vows of faithfulness to each other before the Lord; to hear once more God's commands and blessings concerning marriage; and, finally, to give opportunity to friends and relatives to join with you in imploring God's guidance and blessings for your future years together.

The basic attitude is the worship of God.  Our primary aim is to please God and conform to His wishes.  A Christian wedding is not a show or a mere social gathering.  It is not a modeling session nor a pageant for reciving personal praise from relatives and friends.  It is the joining of a man and woman in the divine institution of Holy Matrimony, in the House of God, and in the structure of divine worship.

Who May Be Married At Good Shepherd?

Communicant members of GSLC may be married at Good Shepherd.  If one of the partners to be married is not a member of the Lutheran Church, we request that both partners enroll in the Foundations of Faith class prior to the marriage.  This class is lead by our pastors and is offered regularly throughout the year.  The purpose of this class is to offer an opportunity to examine the major doctrines of the Lutheran Church as taught from the Bible.  Non-Lutherans who complete the class may join the Lutheran Church as a communicant member if they so desire.  Mutual understanding, respect, and commitment in the religious life of the couple is foundational for a healthy marriage.

If you are considering getting married through Good Shepherd, we invite you to meet with one of our pastors.  You will receive a Wedding Guidelines booklet which contains important information to assist your wedding planning at GSLC.  Contact the church office at 402-332-3345.
